  7. ========
  8. PassMark PerformanceTest is a software tool that
  9. allows everybody to quickly assess the performance
  10. of his or her computer and compare it to a number
  11. of standard 'baseline' computer systems.

  15. Installation
  16. ============
  17. 1) Uninstall any previous version of PerformanceTest
  18. 2) Run (double click on) the petst.exe file
  19. 3) Follow the prompts
  20.  
  21. UnInstallation
  22. ==============
  23. Using Control panel:
  24. 1) Launch the Windows Control Panel.
  25. 2) Uninstall via the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.

  27. Alternatively:
  28. 1) Select Windows Start, then All Programs, Performance Test, 
  29.    and Uninstall Performance Test.

  31. Requirements
  32. ============
  33. Windows 98, Me, 2000 Professional, XP Home, and XP Professional
  34. Windows 95 and NT are not supported. 
  35. Windows XP 64bit and 64bit Itanium Windows 2003 server are not 
  36. supported.
  37. Windows 98 requires Internet Explorer V5.0 or higher.
  38. 800 x 600 pixel display
  39. DirectX 8.0 or higher
  40. 32MB RAM
  41. 2MB of free hard disk space
  42. (plus additional hard disk space to run the Disk test)
  43. Note: Where SIMD CPU instructions are not supported by the PC
  44. hardware, for example on older systems and some tablet PC's,
  45. the relevant tests will be omitted, resulting in a reduced 
  46. performance rating.

  59. Known issues
  60. ============
  61. Disk test, Windows 98.
  62. If the correct chipset device drivers have not been
  63. installed and DMA support is not enabled for the disk,
  64. then the system may appear to freeze for the duration
  65. of the disk test. Please consult your hard disk
  66. manufacturer for instructions regarding the correct
  67. DMA settings for your drive.
  68.  
  69. 3D Test, Legacy video cards, Windows 98.
  70. Older video adapters may behave erratically during
  71. the 3D test or may lockup the system if the video
  72. drivers do not fully support DirectX. All modern
  73. cards with DirectX compliant drivers should function
  74. properly
  75.  
  76. 3D Test, NVIDIA video cards, Windows XP, PC-Anywhere.
  77. When running Windows XP with PC-Anywhere 10.5 installed
  78. on an NVIDIA chipset based video card, pcAnywhere must
  79. be placed into "Compatibility" mode for the 3D tests
  80. to function. This is a known compatibility issue
  81. that will be addressed in the next release of
  82. pcAnywhere. Updating to the latest video drivers on
  83. the system may remove the need to manually change
  84. the pcAnywhere settings
  85.  
  86. 3D Test, Software Emulation option.
  87. The software emulation option in the advanced 3D test
  88. will only function when the full version of the DirectX
  89. SDK (software development kit) is installed.

  91. Advanced CD & Disk test.
  92. When using the cached testing options, benchmark results
  93. can vary dramatically between the first test run and
  94. subsequent test runs. This is due to the operation of the
  95. Windows cache and is normal behaviour.

  140. - A specific error message has been added when a user tries 
  141.   to install an already installed baseline.
  142. - It is now indicated in the Baseline information window 
  143.   whether onboard device and system slot information is 
  144.   unavailable.
  145. - When a PC comes out of Sleep mode, under all certain 
  146.   circumstances the status bar is now correctly redrawn.
  147. - Average WAW in the advanced disk test has been corrected.
  148. - Viewing a graph when there are valid results for 10 or 
  149.   more threads is now correctly handled.
  150. - Menu item ellipses (...) have been updated.
  151. - The setting box in the advanced 3D options no longer

  153. - When the user stops the Advanced disk test, the progress 
  154.   bar is immediately set back to the start, rather than

  156. - The cascading style sheet is now correctly applied when 
  157.   exporting a "file to the web" to all directories, not 
  158.   just the installation directory.
  159. - The "Office" cascading style sheet has been removed, as 
  160.   it was the same as the "Default" cascading style sheet.

  162.   status now indicates stopped rather than completed.
